Ears and Eyes

Blue Power Ear Treatment:

16 oz. Isopropyl Alcohol (or 16 oz. Witch Hazel if ears are very inflamed or sore.)

4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder

16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1%

Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well.

The Boric Acid in the solution will settle so make sure you shake it well. Boric Acid should be on the shelf at the drug store but Gentian Violet is normally kept behind the pharmacy counter. You don't need a prescription for it but you may have to ask them for it.

WARNING: Gentian Violet will stain anything it gets on!!  The inside of Skye's ears have a lovely violet tint and so do some of my yard clothes. I apply Blue Power out in the yard.

If there is already an infection, apply an eye dropper full, let Poo run around to shake out excess. Do NOT rub. Do this twice a day for  a couple of days.

Then twice a day for 2 weeks: apply, rub ears, and wipe out excess with cotton or tissue.

Then once a day for 2 weeks.

Boric Acid Eye Wash

First  make a Boric Acid Eye Wash - you can also use this to soothe eyes.

1/2 cup boiled then cooled water

1/4 tsp Boric Acid powder

Mix well.  Shake again before each use.  Make a fresh batch weekly.

To sooth red tissue

1 drop Eye Bright herbal liquid tincture

1 TB Boric Acid Eye Wash

Mix well and shake before each use.  Discard after a week.

I mix up about a week's worth of wash and then I dump it weekly.  I wash the empty bottle and let it dry so it's ready for the next week's batch.
